Update, December 18, 2019 (12:22 PM ET): OnePlus released and then pulled the stable Android 10 update for the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T last month. This was due to unexpected bugs in the update, forcing the company to fix things.
Once the company got a few things sorted out, it began rolling out the update again earlier this month to select users. Now, OnePlus announced the latest Open Beta 3 builds are officially available, and they include a few goodies. Check out the changelog below:
- System
- Added the notch area display options under Settings>Display>Notch display>Hide the notch area
- Updated the GMS Package
- Updated Android security patch to 2019.11
- Improved system stability and general bug fixes
- OnePlus Care (India only)
- Sign up to get rewards, premium experience, and exclusive offers
Most notably, OnePlus added the ability to hide the notch on these 2018 flagships, a feature that was previously omitted. This is good news for you notch haters out there.
For those of you that want to give these builds a try, you can manually sideload them via the provided links in the forum thread. Keep in mind, in order to successfully update to this Open Beta 3, users must first be on Open Beta 2 otherwise the update will fail.

OnePlus 6 and 6T update
- Current stable version: Android 9 Pie
- When will the OnePlus 6 and 6T get Android 10? September 2019 – November 2019 (estimated)
The OnePlus 6T launched towards the end of 2018 with the latest version of Android, Android 9 Pie. It’s expected to receive at least two major Android updates in the future.
Based on OnePlus’ recent updates, and the fact that the OnePlus 6T is a certified Android 10 beta device, you’d think the phone was likely to receive the final version of Android 10 shortly after it’s released. After all, the OnePlus 6 arrived with Android Oreo but was updated to Android Pie within six weeks of it being released.
OnePlus announced Oxygen OS 9.0.8 for the OnePlus 6 and Oxygen OS 9.0.16 for the OnePlus 6T in August.
In addition to the usual bug fixes and stability improvements, the update brought Fnatic Mode which debuted on the OnePlus 7 Pro. Fnatic Mode is like Gaming Mode on steroids, giving gamers the maximum performance possible during play.
It also updated the Android security patch of the phones to August 2019, added DC dimming, and brought in additional Zen Mode features.
OnePlus briefly issued a stable Android 10 update at the end of November before pulling it due to unforeseen bugs.
A couple of weeks later, the company began rolling out the update again. It was only available in stages to a limited number of users, and it featured a new UI, security updates, fixed fingerprint functionality, improved performance and connectivity, and much more.
