After a period of silence from its relatively new ‘Made for Samsung’ program, some may have been wondering whatever happened to the company’s exclusive software initiative. However, Samsung and The Weather Channel have teamed up to release a new weather app specifically for some Galaxy handsets today.
‘The Weather Channel for Samsung’ app is now live in the Galaxy Apps store, you can find it by searching for “Weather Channel”. However, it’s only officially available for the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge, S6 edge+, and the Galaxy Note 5, which is a really minuscule selection of phones.
The app contains a number of interesting features, including a Smart Weather alarm clock that adjusts the alarm time if it thinks you’ll need additional time to prepare for poor weather. The app offers up live details about wind, humidity, pressure, and the UV index. There are also daily forecasts, floating short-cuts, and customizable in-app live wallpapers. Galaxy edge handsets will also benefit from edge alerts about real time weather changes. The app is also dotted with ads, but it is free.
If you have a different Galaxy handset or a smartphone from another brand altogether, you can always install the app via this APK download. However, as Samsung’s software distribution is region-specific, there are no guarantees that the app will return a weather result for your particular location.
