With Mercedes-Benz climbing aboard the Open Automotive Alliance less than a week ago, we’re now seeing Lincoln join the ranks as well. Yesterday the vehicle manufacturer announced that they would be investing heavily in features that employ new technology going into 2017. This means if Lincoln is your brand of vehicle, then soon you’ll be able to have your brand of OS in the console as well. These features will be showcased in the MKC.

Power liftgate is going to become standard on the MKC, for example (the feature is currently optional). Furthermore, Auto Start-Stop will be made available on 2.0-liter all-wheel-drive versions of the MKC, but it will come standard on the front-wheel drive model. Also, Auto Hold, a feature that eases the irritation of holding down the brake pedal in stop and go traffic, will come standard on all MKCs.
Although many companies have already joined up with the Open Automotive Alliance, it’s always nice to see a newcomer hop on board. It bodes well for the future of Android in our automobiles, and we can look forward to the day when these interfaces are ubiquitous. While we wait for that to happen, give us your thoughts in the comments below. Are you an Android Auto user or Lincoln fan?
