OnePlus promised that all phones up to and including the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T will receive Android Pie. It seems like the company is making progress with these two devices, as it launches the first Android Pie beta update in China.
The manufacturer announced the beta update’s availability via its Chinese forum (h/t: All About OnePlus). You can check out the machine-translated update log below:
System
- Update to Android P version
- Brand new UI design
- April 2018 security patch

Game Mode 3.0

OnePlus hasn’t listed much in the way of Android Pie features here, but the update has brought plenty of tweaks to other phones. Some of these features include rejigged volume controls, adaptive brightness, and App Actions. So hopefully OnePlus includes these features if it hasn’t tweaked OxygenOS in this regard already.
There’s no word on wider beta availability for the OnePlus 3 and 3T right now, but we’ll be sure to give you a heads-up if we spot any news. For what it’s worth, the OnePlus 5 and 5T received the first Android Pie beta in China in mid-November, with the full-fledged stable update rolling out worldwide on Christmas Day. So you might not have to wait too long to receive a sweet taste of Pie.
Still, we’re glad to see OnePlus bringing Android Pie to devices from 2016 — hopefully, other manufacturers learn from them.
