TikTok parent company, ByteDance, has declared that it will soon shut down two of its apps, Vigo Video and Vigo Video Lite, in India. Both apps let users create and share mini videos on various platforms. As per the announcement, the apps will shut down by October 2020.
As reported by TechCrunch, the company has decided to discontinue the service of both the apps because they were unable to gain the audience as compared to TikTok. Whereas TikTok has a userbase of more than 200 million people in India, Vigo Video and Vigo Video Lite have less than 10 million followers in total.

All the users will get the time and tools to migrate their accounts from Vigo to TikTok. The official in-app announcement also contains a link to TikTok for shifting the account to the popular app.
As per the stats shared by TechCrunch, Vigo Video only gained around 4 million monthly active users whereas Vigo Lite was able to gain just 1.5 million active monthly users.
Recently, ByteDance’s TikTok suffered a lot of backlash in India due to a war going on between TikTok and YouTube creators. People were so dedicated to pulling down TikTok that its rating went from 4.5 to 1.3 stars on Google Play Store.
However, after a few days, Google removed all the spam reviews and the app again restored its rating. After the shutdown of both apps, the user base of Vigo Video and Vigo Video Lite will mostly go to TikTok which is a win-win situation for ByteDance.
