2021 Toyota Innova Scores 5 Star Safety Rating In ASEAN NCAP Crash Test

The 2021 Toyota Innova Crysta facelift recently made its debut in Indonesia. Along with that, the MUV was crash tested by ASEAN NCAP and its results are out now. The 2021 Toyota Innova received a five-star safety rating on it.

The model tested was the base variant manufactured in Indonesia and comes with a 2.0-liter petrol engine. As per the sources, there are no structural changes in the new Toyota Innova. However, the updated base model has got few design updates along with a facelift.

In terms of safety, it’s equipped with safety features like dual airbags, ABS, EBD, front seat belt reminder, and ESP.

The company has introduced ESP (Electronic Stability Program) as a standard safety feature across all its variants that helped it score a five-star rating. In contrast, the 2016 Innova had ESP only in its higher variants. Therefore, the 2016 model received four stars in the ASEAN NCAP test.

Basically, there are three main parameters on which the scoring is done: Adult Occupant Safety, Child Occupant Safety, and Safety Assist Technologies. The 2020 Innova scored 45.90 for Adult Occupant Safety, 21.51 for Child Occupant Safety, and 15.28 for Safety Assist Technologies. Combining all three, the MPV scored 82.69 points, which resulted in achieving five stars.

The frontal-offset and side-impact tests were conducted at Toyota’s lab in collaboration with the ASEAN NCAP. In addition, the automaker used a new ‘Q-dummies’ for child occupant testing instead of previously used P dummies. This was done to obtain better results.

The newer Q-dummies provide better biomechanics and kinematics that give better readings and help in evaluating the risks accurately.

Apart from this, the new Innova Crysta got a few design updates that include a redesigned front grille, dual-tone alloys, reworked bumpers, and much more.

We expect the Indian variant of the new Innova Crysta facelift will feature the same updates. Furthermore, the car will hopefully arrive in the Indian market next year.
