Recently, the PUBG franchise owner, PUBG Corp posted a job listing for ‘Corporate Development Division Manager’ in India. As soon as the job listing went live on LinkedIn, several people thought that it hints towards the comeback of PUBG Mobile in India.
However, despite what other news publication websites say, the job listing doesn’t necessarily mean that PUBG Mobile is coming back to India anytime soon.
The job listing on LinkedIn says that the person applying for the position will have to “Support the setup process PUBG India with guidance from HQ (i.e., Krafton Inc.).” After reading this, people immediately picked up on “PUBG India” and started hoping that PUBG Mobile will come back pretty soon.
PUBG and PUBG Mobile Are Different Games
If you’re familiar with PUBG, you must know that PUBG and PUBG Mobile are different games. By PUBG, we mean the PC and console version; PUBG Mobile is the version we get on Android and iOS, which was banned by the Indian Government. So, PUBG and PUBG Mobile India( if it comes back) will have a different set of teams with their individual hiring process.
Also, in the LinkedIn job listing, the word “PUBG Mobile” isn’t mentioned anywhere. Instead, the job responsibility mentions the setup process for ‘PUBG India.’ It means that PUBG Corporation is planning on opening an operational office in India for the console and PC version of the game — similar to their offices in North America, Europe, Japan, China, and Southeast Asia.
Also, establishing a PUBG Corp office in India doesn’t mean that the Indian Government will unban PUBG Mobile. That’s because MeitY banned PUBG Mobile even after Tencent set up local servers in India. So, PUBG Mobile servers or operational office location wasn’t the only reason behind the ban.
Of course, PUBG Corp would want to bring back PUBG Mobile in India. However, establishing an operation office in India is one of the many steps the company has to overtake.
