You can now play the original Counter-Strike 1.6 on Android

Counter-Strike 1.6 Android

A crafty developer with a taste for nostalgia has successfully ported Counter-Strike 1.6 to Android. There’s nothing official about this game appearing on Android, so don’t expect any support from Steam if things get weird, but you have to admire the fact the original game was ported to mobile by just one guy.

Alibek Omarov posted the game to Github for anyone with the motivation to go get it. You will need to have Counter-Strike 1.6 in your Steam account to play it on your Android, as you need some files contained therein, but for everything else you can head over to Github.

If dealing with touch controls in Counter-Strike isn’t your cup of tea, and one look at the video demo of the game running on Android should assure you of this, just hook up a compatible game pad or controller.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen clever retooling of old games on Android and we recently saw an updated Game Boy capable of running emulator games via a Raspberry Pi. It’s great to see that nostalgia is in such plentiful supply for both hardware and software.

What classic game do you want to see on Android? Why is there so much nostalgia right now?
